The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne My rating: 2 of 5 stars I think this is the second time I read the book. However as I am in the twilight of my years, I took another swing at it. I visited Salem 2 years ago and even saw the House of the 7 gables and other interesting places in Salem. I have an album of my visit to New England on Facebook. Norma, my wife would like to return. But with Covid19 most of our travel plans have dissipated. The story does show a few things that call my attention. The culture of the New England culture of the time, the aspect of the Puritan life, etc. Interesting how a man of God, can carry the secret of sin, and the pressure of his conscience, while the Woman must bear her the consequences of her sin openly and how a grudge and the desire for revenge can destroy a person. No doubt, women are just more open and braver than men in general even in those times. I will read the book again! View all my reviews
