Five Internet Changes that would be Beneficial

The five changes that would be influential to the internet has to do more with people than technology. First, I would like to see parental responsibility where parents have a balanced viewpoint of internet technologies with their children followed by institutional responsibility, institutions such as schools and so forth at colleges and Universities, third commercial responsibility and then government accountability and personal accountability.

When studying the five changes that I would like to see with the internet it is essential to consider the role of parents and children. There are many tools that have been developed to be used by parents and by children. For the parents, there is Hardware and software to monitor their kids some of the software and hardware assist parents to basically spy on their kid's activity while on the internet. If you search the web you will see many different types of tools for this one activity. But where is the communication between parent and child? Just do a Google search internet tools for parents and children and you will see a whole page or more on how parents can spy on their kids. When my children when living in my home I reminded them that I did not run a democracy. I directly and in front of them search their phones, search the rooms, search their clothes to make sure that they were not doing something that was incorrect but the best thing I had was direct communication and I also kept my promises. There was no reason for me to spy on my kids. My kids saw everything I did directly. As technology is becoming more advanced in the classroom and its Internet-related a parent should have direct conversations with their children about internet use and the authority that they have as parents to monitor that Internet use and Internet devices it is not a child choice.

Another essential idea related to five internet changes is the ability for public schools, private schools, universities, and colleges to install software not only to monitor school equipment but also to monitor the use of cell phones, tablets, and personal computers on school grounds. Some universities are already doing this in regards to the personal laptops. This software placed on the cell phone for children who are going to public school would assist in avoiding problems that occur when kids do stupid things on the internet like sexting. If a child gets involved in such behavior the school is notified as well as the parents. There should be more involvement on part of the business and commercial side of the internet. We all heard of the 'Darknet' Where criminal activities occur such as child pornography, prostitution or the sex trade. The government accountability comes in when an individual has his material on his PC that he downloaded from the internet the ISP should pay a heavy fine or just get shut down you will see how in this country that stuff will start to disappear. Right now in the United States everyone ... that is everyone is receiving Internet service from a corporate or private organization. Make them accountable and the darknet will start to disappear. The reality is it really will not disappear because of the millions of dollars the dark generates by a lot of unscrupulous organizations managing parts of the internet. If one wants to get rid of roaches one has to have a clean house.

The five changes that would be influential to the internet broad impact would influence the world of cyberspace. Of course, personal accountability is just a segment of the other four segments of influencing the internet. Parents have personal responsibility for the children. Institutions such as schools and colleges have personal accountability for their students, commercial businesses have personal accountability for their customers and the government has personal accountability for their constituents. It just seems logical. However, one must recognize that the changes in technology and culture are occurring so fast. How One affects the other there is a possibility that these changes will never be made and that is sad.

  1. You mention accountability and responsibility. Those two words have little or no relationship to the present system. Therefore my conclusion to your proposed 5 points is...DREAM ON.

The Long Mars

The Long Mars by Terry Pratchett My rating: 3 of 5 stars "The Long Mars," the third installment in the Long Earth series, continues to expand the already vast canvas of Pratchett and Baxter's creation. While the concept of "Joker Mars" – echoing the familiar "Joker Earths" – is intriguing, it's just one of three distinct narrative threads woven throughout this book. We follow Sally Linsay on a journey across the Martian Stepped worlds, unraveling the mysteries her father, Willis, seeks. This exploration of the alien landscapes of the Long Mars is certainly compelling, but personally, it was the storyline involving "The Next" that truly captivated me. Joshua Valiente's arc, which delves into the emergence of these post-human children, is where the book really shines. It's a powerful exploration of prejudice, fear, and the potential societal clashes that arise when faced with the "other." The authors masterfully tackle ...

The Long Utopia

The Long Utopia by Terry Pratchett My rating: 3 of 5 stars In The Long Utopia, a novel in the Long Earth series, the artificial intelligences Agnes and Lobsang embark on a unique endeavor: adopting a human child, Ben, and attempting to build a normal pioneering life on one of the seemingly infinite parallel Earths. However, their peaceful existence takes a dramatic turn with the human pioneers discovering a peculiar species dubbed 'silver beetles'. These insects exhibit an unusual behavior of 'stepping down' to lower-numbered Earths. As the pioneers observe them, a terrifying realization dawns: the silver beetles are not merely migrating; they are systematically transforming their chosen parallel Earth into a colossal Dyson Motor, a structure designed to harness the star's energy. Lobsang, with his advanced analytical capabilities, understands the catastrophic implications. These silver beetles can step sideways to other parallel Earths, potentially converting an...

The Long Cosmos

The Long Cosmos by Terry Pratchett My rating: 2 of 5 stars Having just finished "The Long Cosmos," the final installment in the "Long Earth" series—a collaboration Stephen Baxter completed after Terry Pratchett's passing—I found myself a bit disappointed by the number of loose ends left unresolved. I think a core challenge in classifying this series as traditional science fiction lies in its fundamental premise, which sidesteps the real-world physics limitations of interstellar travel. Knowing the near impossibility of venturing beyond our solar system due to light-speed limits, the authors cleverly engineered the parallel Earth concept as their vehicle for cosmic exploration. Instead of launching spaceships, the characters simply "step" into new worlds. This ingenious workaround allows for adventure without grappling with conventional astrophysical constraints. While "The Long Cosmos" does bring humanity's journey across the infinite ...
