Unconquerable Sun by Kate Elliott
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
It is a space opera, more about SJW female empowerment. It is entertaining. The hierarchy in this novel is female based. The Empire is led by a queen Marshall and she can have many consorts. These marriages are for political reasons. The only interesting things that I saw with the book as I was reading had to do with what is called the "Banner soldiers".
The banner soldiers are supposed to fight to the death because they are genetically created this way.
It reminds me of the Jem Hadar from the Star Trek series Deep Space Nine. They were genetically-engineered to serve as shock troopers for the Dominion and were feared throughout the galaxy as the brutal face of Dominion oppression. Aggressive and independent, yet honorable, the Jem'Hadar were kept loyal to their creators by means of a congenital addiction to the Founder-controlled drug ketracel-whit. (trek wiki)
Would I recommend anybody to read this book well if you're in a lockdown because of the pandemic why not? But remember I did mention at the beginning you just a Space Opera
